I have yet to leave Hobbiton...

While I have yet to leave my comfortable suburb of East Aurora, there have been some exciting developments in my exchange. I, as of Saturday afternoon, officially know where I will be living, and who I will be living with. I will be living in Lepsämä, 35km outside of Helsinki if I am correct. I will be living with the Latva-Karjanmaa family. While I will be sad to leave my family and girlfriend, that emotion will only list minutely, as the prospect of expanding what I consider to be my family and my worldview is much more intense.

Speaking of Saturday afternoon, the District 7090 Jamestown weekend was this past weekend. It was an enjoyable time to be certain, but nevertheless, what I had found to be the most important was seminar-like aspect. It feels good to know definitively what is expected of me, and what the rules are- that minimizes my chances of messing anything up on an accidental basis. I may post some pictures from the scavenger hunt from Sunday as some of the other team members expressed interest in receiving them.

The First Post

To state the obvious, this is the first post. I have no idea how to work a blog- I resolve to do so, concurrently while learning Finnish. The purpose of this blog is to catalog my wonderfully exciting journey to Finland (and back) as a part of Rotary International's Youth Exchange program. Hopefully, it will also catalog my transformation into a global citizen, and an adult, in the truest connotations of both words.
